The holidays can be a tough time for anyone, but they can be especially tough when you're grieving. Every year, it seems like there's a reminder of what you've lost around every corner. Whether it's an empty chair at the dinner table or a brightly-wrapped present that will never be opened, the reminders can be overwhelming.

But it is possible to get through the holiday season without being consumed by grief. Here are a few tips on how to survive the holidays when you're grieving.

Acknowledge Your Feelings

The first step is to acknowledge your feelings. It's okay to feel sad, angry, or scared during the holidays. In fact, it would be more unusual if you didn't feel those things. Trying to bottle up your emotions will only make them harder to deal with. So allow yourself to feel whatever it is you're feeling.

Talk About Your Loved One

Another way to deal with grief during the holidays is to talk about your loved one who has passed away. Talk about the good times you had together and the things you'll miss most about them. This can help you feel closer to your loved one and make their memory feel more present.

Do Something in Their Memory

One of the best ways to cope with grief during the holidays is to do something in your loved one's memory. This could be something as simple as making their favourite dish or watching their favorite movie. Or you could do something more involved like volunteering in their name or starting a scholarship fund in their honour. Doing something in their memory will help keep their spirit alive during this difficult time of year.

Make New Traditions

Just because your loved one is no longer with you doesn't mean that all of your holiday traditions have to come to an end. You can still carry on many of the traditions you shared with them, but you can also start some new ones as well. This will help create new happy memories that you can look back on in years to come.
