The last (almost) three years have been hugely emotional, stressful and caused a lot of upheaval and uncertainty. It is therefore no surprise that some of us are not feeling particularly festive at this time of year.

If you're struggling to get in the festive spirit or simply want to lift your mood a little and fill your day with things to look forward to then try out these tips below:

Go for winter walks: Yes it may be getting dark early and be freezing cold but the wintery mornings sure  albeit frosty sure are beautiful to look at! Take yourself out for a brisk wintery walk in amongst the frosty nature and breathe in the fresh air. Just getting out and moving will significantly lift your mood and why not take some lovely photographs to look back on too?

Bake some winter/Christmas goodies: If you love baking cakes and cookies then there is nothing better to lift your mood than baking and decorating some gingerbread cookies or cupcakes. If you're like me and not a fan of baking cakes and cookies then buy yourself some puff pastry and fill it with your favourite fillings such as Nutella, Cranberry sauce or even cheese! Bake it in the oven and you've got yourself some yummy winter food to enjoy.

Create Christmas cocktails: If you love a cocktail then why not treat yourself to a cheap cocktail making kit/recipe book and start making your own cocktails. If you practice them enough you'll get to know them off by heart and will have plenty to taste whilst doing so!

Look at Christmas lights: There is nothing better to get you in the Christmas spirit than going for a walk or drive around your area to look at all of the beautiful and unique lights and displays on houses and high streets. I absolutely love looking at all of the lights.

Visit Christmas markets: You can't beat a Christmas market for lifting your mood. Walking through the market in the cold with a warm drink and something savoury, looking at all of the pretty lights, listening to festive music and picking up some unique gifts for the family.

Check out Winter Wonderland: Whilst it can be rather expensive, if you do have the money then visiting your local Winter Wonderland is a great way to get into the Christmas spirit! From the food and drink to the ice rink, arcade games, fairground rides and music, it is sure to lift your mood this festive season.

Listen to Christmas songs: If you have some favourite Christmas songs then add them to your music playlists to boost your mood. Singing and dancing around the house is sure to get you in the festive spirit and feeling much happier.

Donate to a charity or cause: There is no better way to make you feel happier than to help other people who are in need. Whether that is donating your money or time to a charity you strongly support, your local church, giving money/food/drink/gifts to the homeless or even just helping someone out that you know is struggling right now.

Watch a Christmas film: You can't beat a good Christmas film for those festive feels, whether it's a popular one like 'Elf' or those channel 5 cheesy Christmas films (which I actually love, haha).

Get cosy: It is freezing this time of year so get your comfies or onesie on, snuggle up on the sofa with a blanket, make yourself a hot chocolate with all of the marshmallows and cream and spend the day watching your favourite Netflix series or DVDs. This is the perfect time of year for a snuggly comfort day.
