A Day In The Life Of Gemz By Emz

A day in the life of an entrepreneur can be pretty jam-packed. From early mornings to late nights, there's always something to be done. But it's definitely manageable – and a lot of fun!

So, you want to know what a day in the life of this busy business woman is like? Well, let me tell you what a typical Monday involves for me!

8 am:

It all starts with a workout and healthy breakfast. I like to start my day with some exercise to get my blood pumping and set the tone for the day but also because it keeps me happy and positive mentally which always helps me start the day right. After that, it's time for breakfast. I'll usually juice some veg and have either some muesli or egg, bacon and avocado whilst I check and reply to all of your emails and social media messages.

9:30 am:

Next up is photo editing. In order to ensure a perfect engraving I actually have to edit each individual photo that customers upload to the website. Dependant on the volume of orders that I have, this can take some time to complete.

11:45 am:

Following this It's usually lunchtime, or close to lunchtime so I take a break to either make some lunch at home or I pop to Costa for a drink and something to eat to get myself out for a bit.

1 pm:

After lunch and once all of the photos are edited I then start up my machinery, get out all of the stock that is required to be engraved along with my engraving tape and I get Netflix fired up for me to watch in the background whilst engraving. Sometimes, I'll just stick Spotify on but most of the time I like to watch Netflix.

Engraving orders can also take quite a while to do, it all depends on the sort of products I have to to engrave. For example, cufflinks and pandora style charms can be engraved much faster than a trinket box or phone case. (Due to the size.) On average though, the engraving takes me a few hours to complete.

4 pm:

After that, it's time to package up all of the orders, ensuring that my extra freebies (a teabag, a sweet and a discount code) are added. I then print the labels out to stick on each parcel and head out to post them all. I have a lot of orders that go out each day, so I like to make sure that everything is ready to go in good time.

5 pm:

I usually eat my dinner around 5pm each day and have a complete break from work before heading back to it afterwards.

5:30 pm:

Once the post run for the day has been done it's time to do a stock take and to order in any extra stock that is running low. This is something that needs to be done on a regular basis if I want my business to run smoothly as there is nothing worse than having a customer order an item that you haven't realised is out of stock! I usually do this check weekly and I have a spreadsheet to keep on top of it.

6 pm:

Finally, it's time to respond to the afternoon voicemails and emails/social media messages. I don't like to keep customers waiting too long for a reply so I like to check and keep on top of all enquiries.

6:30 pm:

Next it's time to write and schedule some blog posts. This is something that I like to do once a month or once every few weeks - I will sit down to plan, type and schedule in all of my blog posts. I usually post 1-2 a week to provide some key content to my followers.

Tasks each day and each week can vary as there is always something that can crop up but on this particular Monday these were the tasks that had to be completed. And that's how a typical day in the life of this busy business woman goes!
